Available Staff Positions
Part-Time and Full-Time Staff Midwives Beginning Fall of 2025
We currently have 2 positions available for Certified Professional Midwives and/or Certified Nurse Midwives interested in working in our community-based birth center. We are looking for passionate, dedicated midwives with a desire to serve our amazing community that includes BIPOC, LGBTQAI+, and immigrant families. Plus, due to our sabbatical, these midwives have an opportunity to help craft an on-call model that works for everyone involved. Must be interested in teaching Student Midwives, so Preceptorship is a plus! Home birth services are offered at our practice, and the first 2 weeks of postpartum care are held in the clients' homes, regardless of place of birth. Benefits include paid mileage, accrued sick time, and malpractice insurance coverage. Will consider covering the cost of licensure in California for midwives applying from out-of-state.
Interested midwives should email a cover letter and resume to midwives@acornbirthcenter.com. Please include at least 2 professional references.
Student Apprenticeships
Applications are Being Accepted for the Fall of 2025
Our clinic would not exist without our students! They are an integral part of how we run our birth center and why we are able to offer services to low-income and underserved communities that typically have no options for midwifery care. Our students receive both home birth and birth center experiences, and our higher volume allows students to obtain their clinical numbers at a higher rate than in traditional home birth practices. We value and respect our students, and our model allows for students to work, tend to their domestic lives, and learn good self-care while also gaining experiences as a midwife in training. Students must either be enrolled in a MEAC-accredited midwifery school or seeking a CPM certification through the PEP process. A High School diploma, CPR/BLS, and NRP Certification are required as a prerequisite for apprenticeship. Students in our program are required to attend at least one clinic day per week and be on-call for births between 37-42 weeks gestation for their assigned clients. Student housing is available for student midwives coming in from out of the area. Opportunities to earn income include placenta encapsulation services, teaching childbirth education, becoming a Medicaid-certified Doula for our clients, or offering your area of birth-related expertise out of our birth center.
